Resolution Calculator

Moving from 1080p to 1440p or 4K? Compare two resolutions to see how many more pixels your graphics card has to draw every frame, and check the aspect ratio of any screen size.

Pixels per frame

What the pixel count tells you. 1440p has about 1.8 times the pixels of 1080p, and 4K has exactly 4 times as many. Frame rates usually drop as pixel count rises, though not in exact proportion. Upscalers such as DLSS, FSR and XeSS render fewer pixels and scale the image up, which is why they help so much at 1440p and 4K.

How this works

  1. Pixel count = width × height. The comparison divides one resolution's pixel count by the other's to show how much more work the GPU does per frame.
  2. Aspect ratio = width ÷ height, reduced by the greatest common divisor (2560 × 1440 becomes 16:9).
  3. Scaled resolution keeps the aspect ratio: new height = new width × original height ÷ original width, rounded to whole pixels.

More pixels usually means lower FPS, but not in exact proportion: some of the work in each frame doesn't depend on resolution, and CPU-limited games barely change.
